Previously reliant on a rigid and expensive software tool, our client struggled with its lack of flexibility and customization options, which were crucial for their specific assessment requirements. The need for a scalable solution capable of handling detailed evaluations, including extensive image documentation for each physical location, was paramount. Additionally, the client aimed to streamline the reporting process, making it more efficient and less labor-intensive, particularly for generating comprehensive reports that could span hundreds of pages with numerous images.

Solution

Our response to these challenges was a fully custom-built ADA assessment website, leveraging cutting-edge technology to offer unparalleled flexibility and efficiency.

• Technology Stack: We chose RedwoodJS for the front and back end, paired with a Serverless framework on AWS Lambda for deployment, ensuring scalability and cost-effectiveness. MongoDB, managed through Prisma and GraphQL, was selected for our database needs, offering robust data handling capabilities.

• Customizable Assessments: The core of our solution lies in its customizable checklist questions, allowing admins to tailor every aspect of the assessment process. From detailed checklists addressing specific ADA compliance areas, like parking lot accessibility, to state-specific question availability and elaborate pass/fail criteria, the tool provides comprehensive coverage of compliance requirements.

• Advanced Image Processing: Recognizing the importance of visual documentation in ADA assessments, we implemented a Lambda-based image processing stack. This feature not only supports the storage and management of a large volume of images but also optimizes them for on-demand sizing, ensuring efficient report generation.

• Dynamic Reporting: The tool's ability to generate, preview, and edit PDF reports on the web significantly enhances the reporting process. Despite the technical challenge of optimizing these extensive documents, our solution ensures that reports remain accessible and manageable, even when they include hundreds of pages and images. Integration with SharePoint facilitates easy report sharing and accessibility.

• Cost Savings: Adopting a serverless model allowed us to optimize development and operational costs. Compared to the traditional $$$/month server setup, we were able to offer free hosting for our client.
